ROGAINE®

Hair loss is a different experience for every individual. Hair loss can start as a receding hairline, or it may begin at the top of the scalp. While it can be easier to style a receding hairline to be less noticeable, thinning on the crown is difficult to cover with the remaining hair. A thinning crown can make someone who is relatively young look much older than their age. Rogaine® is a solution that can revitalize hair restoration for the crown in a transformative way. Rogaine® is one of the most commonly used hair loss solutions. Coincidentally, Rogaine® had similar beginnings to Propecia. The main ingredients in both hair loss solutions weren’t originally intended to be used for hair loss. Minoxidil, the generic form of Rogaine®, was thought to treat stomach ulcers. Years after, scientists discovered the benefits of minoxidil for hair restoration. This revolutionary discovery changed the potentials of hair restoration.

Rogaine® is an FDA-approved topical treatment for hair loss caused by androgenetic alopecia, otherwise known as male or female pattern baldness. Along with Propecia, Rogaine® is the only FDA-approved treatment for hair loss. Rogaine® is one of the most well-known and popular treatments for hair loss because of its effectiveness in treating crown baldness and its ease of use. Rogaine® is known as an effective hair loss treatment for men and women affected by hair loss.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ROGAINE®?

Rogaine® is applied to act as a vasodilator, which means it dilates the blood in your scalp to stimulate hair restoration. Blood dilation will increase the length and thickness of miniature hairs affected by DHT, the hormone connected to male and female pattern baldness. Rogaine® is not only a vasodilator, but also contains botanical extracts and emollients that nourish the scalp. Because growing hair thrives in scalps that are hydrated and healthy, proper nourishment helps hair restoration reach its full potential. Another important ingredient in Rogaine® is alpha hydroxy acid, otherwise known as AHA. The exfoliation properties from AHA help keep hair follicles open and skin well-maintained to provide growing hairs the best environment to thrive in.

WHO IS A GOOD CANDIDATE FOR THE USE OF ROGAINE®?

Like other non-surgical hair loss treatments, Rogaine® is most effective for those in the earlier stages of hair loss. Rogaine® is known to treat thinning hair on the crown, but is not noted to be effective for receding hairlines or balding in the middle of the scalp. Rogaine® isn’t as effective for those in the later stages of hair loss. Later stages of hair loss can typically only be reversed with surgical options due to the hair density needed for proper hair restoration. WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF ROGAINE® COMPARED TO SURGICAL HAIR RESTORATION OPTIONS?

Rogaine® is often chosen over surgical options because of its ease of use, affordability, and effectiveness in treating the earlier stages of hair loss. Some patients may not want to undergo surgical hair restoration until they have exhausted their non-surgical options. While Rogaine® has shown success in treating hair loss, it may not work for everyone. Dr. Marko can meet with you to determine the best hair restoration option for you.

HOW DO I USE ROGAINE®?

Rogaine® is a topical solution that is simple to use. It is best to start by exposing the section of the scalp where Rogaine® will be applied. Apply Rogaine® to the exposed area and begin massaging the scalp thoroughly. Be careful to apply gently to not damage or break any hair follicles. Rogaine® should be used twice a day, once in the morning and once at night before bed. Results often appear around 4 months of daily use.

WHAT ARE THE SIDE EFFECTS OF ROGAINE®?

Rogaine® is generally a safe medication to use for hair restoration. Some patients may experience scalp sensitivity, skin dryness, flaking, and irritation, and burning.
